Vice President for Operations

Why I go to work every day?

I go to work every day because I love what I do. I’m dedicated to providing purpose and intentionality for our cherished residents and valued employees. As a child, people often told me that I couldn’t change the world. My response was always, “of course I can…one person at a time”. I have continued to believe that through my efforts, I am making the world a better place to live and work.

How did I get here?

I was raised by my Grandparents in a small rural community in Illinois. Following high school, I continued my education at our local community college as a nursing major and followed up with coursework at Eastern Illinois University.

Throughout my educational journey, I vowed not to work with the senior population. My rationale… “ I had been raised by “old” people all my life.” Needless to say, I quickly found my reasoning to be completely ludicrous in my professional journey.

I began my career in a transitional/long-term care wing at our local hospital and never deviated from my calling to serve the older population. At age 25, I was hired as an Administrator of a newly constructed assisted living community in my hometown. By age 27, I became a “road warrior” and was promoted to Regional Director of Operations for the same company. My team grew the portfolio from three properties to twenty-one before the owner decided to sell in 2005. At that time, I was promoted to the Director of Operations for the state of Illinois and continued to see the portfolio of affordable and private pay assisted living facilities through the acquisition/transition period. In 2007, I chose to embark on a new experience with a larger management company, where I devoted the next fifteen years as a Regional Director of Operations, Operations Specialist, and Director of Staff Development. While healthcare can seem like a big world, it is actually very small. Therefore, throughout the formative years of Silver Birch, I watched the company grow and excel from a distance. I was blessed to join the talented team and dedicated owners of Silver Birch as the Vice President for Operations in January 2022.

Why I care about this industry?

I grew up in a blue-collar family and was the first in my household to attend college. As an adolescent/teenager, I watched the countless hours that my grandparents dedicated to work so they could pay the bills and put food on our table. When I became an administrator of my first assisted living community, it was a private pay community. I spent the first two years of my career explaining to many residents and their families that they didn’t have the resources to move in or continue residency in the place they called “home .” These discussions left me yearning to care for all seniors, regardless of income. Our industry has opened doors to all seniors through waiver services in multiple states. Silver Birch is dedicated, as an industry leader, to ensuring that persons of all income levels receive the care they deserve. I am blessed to be a part of this continued initiative.

Who I really am….

I am a devoted Christian who believes I’ve been called to be a servant leader in my professional and personal life. I am a proud mother of two adult children, Oma to a handsome grandson and wife to a devoted husband. As a family, we love to attend sporting events, travel and dedicate our free time to mission work. I love to listen to all kinds of music, read, and take long walks in the evening.
