What is the waiting list?

Indiana is using a waiting list to manage how many people get access to the Aged and Disabled Waiver for Medicaid. If you need services through the Aged and Disabled Waiver, you will need to get on the waiting list.

Why is there a waiting list?

The FSSA gives a set number of waiver slots each year and the 2024 limit has already been reached – leading to a waiting list.

How long is the waiting list?

The FSSA said 5,000 additional slots will open on July 1, 2024. However, the current waiting list is already larger than 5,000 – meaning you will have to wait longer.

First Assessment

The AAA or ADRC will call you for an initial phone assessment to see if you’re eligible for the waiting list.

Waiting List Acceptance

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you’ll be added to the waitlist. The AAA / ADRC will send you a letter confirming you are on the waiting list.

Wait for Waiver Acceptance

Check your mail! The AAA / ADRC will send you an invitation to continue the process. Be sure to follow instructions and setup your home assessment – you have 30 days to do so.

In-Home Assessment

Someone from the AAA / ADRC will come to your home for a Level of Care assessment. This is the final step before you are approved and covered for the level of care you need.
