Why I go to work every day?
I am deeply committed to creating value for others through a relationship first mindset. For me, the professional nexus of this approach is senior living as there is nothing more impactful to an individual than their home and their wellness. I find tremendous joy in doing my part to serve residents and their families, my colleagues at Silver Birch, the community at large, and all other stakeholders involved in a senior living community. A big part of what drives Silver Birch’s successful stakeholder outcomes and what motivates me daily, is the Silver Birch team’s personification of our core values. Own It, Respect It, Improve It, Celebrate It, and Live It, aren’t just words but rather value-creating actions throughout Silver Birch.
How did I get here?
My nearly 20-year real estate and senior housing career includes development, investment, and operational experience at Matter State Real Estate Investment Partners, a company I founded. I served as senior housing operator/developer at Seasons Living, and led the senior living platforms for Sterling Bay and Convexity Properties.
Additional experience includes Ventas, Inc. (NYSE: VTR), at which I directed all capital investment activities for a portfolio of 95 senior living communities in the US and Canada and advanced Ventas’ ESG initiatives within that portfolio. I currently serve as Vice Chairman of the Urban Land Institute Senior Housing Council and was previously an Advisory Committee Member of the American Senior Housing Association (ASHA). I’m a graduate of the University of Illinois with a degree in finance and played professional baseball with the Texas Rangers and Pittsburgh Pirates organizations following college.
Who I really am…
I am fortunate. Fortunate to have a wonderful family with three sons and fortunate to have amazing colleagues at Silver Birch where I truly enjoy what I do. I feel equally fortunate to have been raised by terrific parents amidst a robust network of family friends. I try to spend as much time as possible integrating family, friends, and senior living with a love for travel and snow and water activities.
