What is an assisted living community?

Assisted living communities are designed for people who value independence but who also need help with certain daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, meals, and taking medication.

What is the difference between assisted living and a nursing home?

The team at a Place for Mom has a great overview of the different types of senior living options. In contrast to assisted living, nursing homes are equipped to provide individuals with medical assistance for major acute medical conditions that require round the clock nursing care. Assisted living communities like Silver Birch enable seniors that have some needs for assistance to retain their independence. Assisted Living communities have private apartments, bathrooms, and kitchenettes while providing abundant amenity space and supportive staff.

How is Silver Birch different from other assisted living communities?

Silver Birch has developed an innovative business model that makes quality assisted living affordable for everyone. Residents of all means—including those who qualify for financial support—can enjoy a lifestyle of unmatched quality and personalized service.

The community provides residents with a 24-hour staff that will help them with everyday needs such as getting in and out of bed, obtaining medications, housekeeping, laundry, meals, and social activities.

How will my level of care be assessed?

When you move in, our staff will assess your current health and medical history to tailor an individual plan that meets your needs. Our staff will inform you of the cost of your care.

What happens if I need assistance in an emergency?

Silver Birch is staffed 24 hours per day. Each apartment features an emergency alert system to notify staff immediately if you need assistance. Our staff also conducts wellness checks periodically throughout the day.

Are pets allowed at Silver Birch?

Registered service animals are permitted at Silver Birch. With prior written approval, caged pet birds and/or fish in aquariums may be allowed in the units. However, we don’t permit dogs, cats, or other pets except for temporary visitation under specific circumstances and under leash.

What financing options are available?

Silver Birch participates in an Indiana initiative to divert people from nursing homes to home-like settings like assisted living. If you qualify, your services at Silver Birch can be funded by VA or Medicaid benefits. For more than 50 years, Medicaid has provided a safety net so that seniors can get the support for daily living even after they have depleted their own resources. A joint program of the federal and state governments, Medicaid can cover the costs associated with receiving assisted living services at Silver Birch. A person seeking financial support from Medicaid applies through the state in which he or she resides. The state determines how Medicaid benefits are provided.

Since Medicaid eligibility rules can be challenging for the newcomer, Silver Birch offers prescreening and consulting prior to submitting a Medicaid application. Silver Birch walks families through the approval process, identifying the necessary benefits and strategies to navigate the process. This prescreening helps families be better prepared and fully supported in their assisted living selection.
