Celebrating Resident Success at Silver Birch of Evansville

MEET SUE FOSTER

In the fall of 2023, Sue fell ill with COVID-19 and pneumonia — landing her in an extended hospital stay. Sue had experienced asignificant decline, developing acute liver failure as a result of her diagnoses. She was unable to walk and had very little tolerance for her usual activities. To perform basic self-care tasks and navigate spaces, Sue depended on a wheelchair and additional assistance from caregivers.

AT SILVER BIRCH OF EVANSVILLE

Sue was discharged from the hospital in November and started Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy at Silver Birch of Evansville. In her sessions, she demonstrated excellent motivation and participation. In just two months of therapy, Sue improved her functional reach, allowing her to complete more self-care tasks, and greater mobility — contributing to a stronger sense of independence. Now, Sue can move throughout her community, attending meals and activities with friends, and living a more purposeful life.

Functional Outcomes

  • Sue’s walking improved from 50 feet to 350 feet
  • Sue’s level of assistance with daily tasks improved from requiring moderate assistance to independent.

“I am so glad to be able to go to meals and socialize with friends without being stuck in my wheelchair! – Sue Foster
