It was many years ago in high school when Timothy Rank began painting. First, he dabbled in watercolor, but today his favorite paint of choice is acrylic. “You can do finer, detailed work with acrylic paint,” he expressed.
When Timothy first arrived at Silver Birch Living, marketing director Tammy McConnell knew there was something special about his hand-painted works of art.
“You could tell he was talented and proud of his artwork. I knew there was something special about Timothy,” she said.
She said it’s important to try to understand each resident’s talent and ability, and that’s something the team at Silver Birch Living enjoys.
“Understanding what interests and inspires our residents is so essential. When you tap into that part of their life, it’s very rewarding for them. So many of our residents are so talented, and it’s fun to celebrate that,” she said.
That’s when Tammy had the idea to ask Timothy to create a piece of artwork for the lobby of the assisted living community.
After a short brainstorm, they finally decided what the painting would be–silver birch trees, of course.
That’s when Timothy got to work. In his roomy, updated one-bedroom apartment, he spent about two weeks working on his masterpiece.
He really enjoyed painting in his new place at Silver Birch, a place where he said he felt comfortable and at home.
“It’s really nice to have my own, private place to paint,” he added.
Soon enough, Timothy was finished with the painting. It was ready to hang on the wall.
At the large size of 36×36, Tammy and the team at Silver Birch Living proudly displayed the painting in the front lobby, inviting residents to join them to celebrate Timothy’s creative achievement.
As Timothy looked at the painting, he commented that he’s always enjoyed painting landscapes most, and he was thankful for the thoughtful opportunity from Tammy and the team at Silver Birch Living.
“I truly enjoy when other people enjoy my artwork. It’s not about the compliments that people give me, it’s rewarding just that I know they are appreciating the art, and that it made an impact on them,” he said.
As far as his next project, he’s already thinking about the next landscape and painting more happy little trees.
