Silver Birch Living Earns 2023 AHCA/NCAL Bronze National Quality Award

National Award Honors Commitment to Quality Care

Silver Birch Living locations in Evansville, Terre Haute, Mishawaka, Michigan City and Hammond are bronze recipients of the 2023 Commitment to Quality Award by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL).

Silver Birch Living was honored for its commitment to improving the lives of residents through quality care. The program honors providers nationwide that demonstrated a commitment to improving the quality of care for Indiana elders and individuals with disabilities.

“I applaud Evansville, Terre Haute, Mishawaka, Michigan City and Hammond Silver Birch Living communities for taking this important first step to further enhance the quality of the care we provide to residents,” said Silver Birch Living President and CEO Jo Ellen Bleavins. “Thanks to the hard work and leadership of our communities, we are able to positively enrich the lives of the individuals who live and work in long-term care.”

The AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program is a rigorous three-level process that is reviewed and evaluated by trained experts against a set of nationally recognized standards for organizational excellence. The standards of the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program help organizations achieve superior performance over time to improve quality of life and care of long-term care residents and staff.

Silver Birch Living and other providers begin the quality improvement process at the bronze level. This is where Silver Birch Living developed an organizational profile with essential performance elements such as vision, mission statement, understanding of key customers, and key strengths and challenges.

During the process, Silver Birch Living also demonstrated its ability to implement a sustainable performance improvement system. Trained examiners review each application to determine if a center has met the demands of the criteria. As a recipient of the bronze award, Silver Birch Living may now move forward to the silver award.

“Earning this award is a milestone to be proud of,” said AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Board Chair Cathy Bergland. “It’s at this point that providers see what is possible by committing to the process of improvement. Congratulations to Silver Birch Living for this achievement. I encourage you to continue your quality improvement journey.”

The awards will be presented during Delivering Solutions 23, the AHCA/NCAL Convention & Expo, October 1-4, 2023 in Denver, Colorado.
