Last Wednesday, Silver Birch Living Chairman, Dave Cocagne had the privilege of participating as a panelist at the Affordable Housing for Seniors event hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
The panel brought together policymakers, funders, developers, and senior housing advocates to detail barriers to the financing and development of affordable service-enriched senior housing and describe successful models for overcoming those barriers.
During the panel, Dave stressed the urgent need to dramatically expand less costly housing options that preserve seniors’ independence before the system is overwhelmed.
“As the Baby Boom generation ages, providing seniors with housing options that preserve their autonomy is critically important” notes Dave, further adding “many of these housing options, including affordable assisted living, cost substantially less than skilled care, an outcome which is critical to the long-term financial viability of Medicaid.”
